Our Story

In 1999, I had a vision for a website that would provide everyday eco-friendly items, ensuring consumers could rely on these products as the "least-worst" choices for both people and the planet. However, before I could pursue this dream, I had to overcome significant personal challenges. My journey to healing from childhood trauma, which had resulted in PTSD, depression, and anxiety, was a courageous step forward. Despite these obstacles, by the time the opportunity finally arrived, I was surprised this initiative hadn’t yet been realized. It's astonishing how much time and effort goes into researching everyday products like sneakers, trash cans, brooms, and toothpaste to ensure they cause minimal harm. Navigating these choices to protect both vulnerable populations and our environment is overwhelming, but vital. The more I learned about the issues of child and forced labor in the production of many common goods, the more determined I became to bring this vision to life without delay.

Our Mission

Our mission is to bridge the gap between daily consumer actions and the broader goal of protecting our planet while promoting social equity. Every purchase made on our platform is a step towards a more connected and sustainable world. When sustainable sourcing is not possible, such as with electronics and propane stoves, we prioritize suppliers from women or minority-owned businesses that are committed to equitable employment practices.
Furthermore, we emphasize minimizing packaging and reducing our carbon footprint. We accomplish this by using an algorithm and a carbon calculator to ensure that products located closest to the consumer are shown first, as well as displaying the carbon footprint of each choice. This allows consumers the opportunity to lower their carbon footprint even more by selecting items that require the least amount of shipping.
By creating a hybrid cooperative, where consumers, vendors and employees own the company, we are empowering our community to not only make the best choice when it comes to daily consumer products, but to benefit the manufacturers, the planet and ourselves as well! Welcome to the community; we value you and your commitment to more sustainable practices!
I enlisted the help of trusted family and friends - as founders - to help me make this dream a reality.
